Confidence Building - Fridays 9.30am from January 8th
One Body One Life for healthy living - Thursdays 2-4pm from January 21st

Gillian Bayliss is our Volunteer Coordinator, and she is a volunteer herself. She has mastered computers, lots of systems including the induction programme for new volunteers, and the many aspects of looking after our big team of volunteers. Gill also does valuable reception work and that is her welcoming smile.

You made it better

Dear All at the Jesus Army

I don’t expect you to remember me but earlier this year I travelled through Coventry on my way back to Yorkshire. I was living rough and your support helped me get back on my feet (all the better they were for your socks) and find a more positive outlook. I’ve since reached Yorkshire, found a flat in the place I wanted to be, and am slowly rebuilding my life. I just wanted to say a big thank you, your place is great and helped me so much at a time when I felt I was at rock bottom. I hope you're still there helping other people like I was then. Coventry’s a great city and you made it all the better for me. Hopefully I’ll take a trip back once I’m a bit more sorted.

Thanks again

Anna

Some oft he things that happened in 2009:

Sainsbury’s, Courthouse Green, started donating surplus foods to us.

  • We had a large donation of cleaning materials from the Ecover supplier.
  • The City Council gave us £15,000 to cover bonds to get people housed.
  • Young At Heart lunch club for over 50’s has proved a great success.
  • The big Hall carpet has been replaced thanks to an anonymous donation.
  • We produced a video about CJC services, filmed and edited by a skilled volunteer. It is on YouTube (search for 'Coventry Jesus Centre')
  • Your Weight is a new weight loss support group.
  • Well Maker is a new service offering healing prayer to anyone booking a half hour session.

We received a number of donations from schools and churches again from Harvest Festival offerings. We use these to provide food parcels to people who are hard up.

      Agency view
Kieran McInerney, Swanswell Trust outreach alcohol advice worker: Being able to undertake outreach work at the Jesus Centre has allowed Swanswell to engage with rough sleepers who otherwise would not come into our main office.  This has led to rough sleepers setting out on a
process of addressing their drinking, with additional benefits such as being able to secure accommodation and establishing stability in their lives.  Activities and the opportunity to volunteer at the Centre also help drinkers find alternative distractions to drinking. It appears Jesus Centre users feel relaxed at the centre and also appreciate the support they get from the Jesus Centre'.

The CJC part of the JA website has been updated. Have a look at
